How it works — best read after you have tried it

A shape that is nearly all edge

A crescent is two curves and very little between them, so almost every tile in it sits near a boundary. That makes it harder to guess from a corner and quicker to see from a distance: the visual system is built to find edges first, and a thin curved band is the kind of edge it locks on to.

Up close each tile is its own small picture, letters and colour, and your attention goes to reading them. From further back no single tile can be read, and what remains is where the picture turns from light to dark. The sites did not move; only what your eyes could resolve changed.

Woven from 27 sites

Every tile is a site listed on Pixeloom. Nobody paid for a place in this picture; each site gets the same number of tiles.
