Lines made of tiles that are not lines
The facets of this gem are drawn by rows of lighter tiles running through the darker ones. None of those tiles is a line; each carries a site’s initials or logo, the same as its neighbours. You read a line anyway, because the eye groups things that are alike and in a row, and treats the group as one object.
That grouping is why you can see the outline and the facets from a distance long before you could say what is written on any tile. Close up, the difference between a lighter and a darker tile is small next to the difference between one logo and the next, so the grouping has nothing to hold on to.
Woven from 27 sites
Every tile is a site listed on Pixeloom. Nobody paid for a place in this picture; each site gets the same number of tiles.
