The Lilac Chaser
Twelve lilac dots and one gap going round — keep your eyes still and see what the gap becomes.
How to play
Watch the gap, not the dots
Look only at the cross in the middle. After a few seconds, pay attention to what the gap going round becomes.
- Under a minute · one question · then the explanation
- This one moves, or may seem to.
How it works — best read after you have tried it
Two effects at once
Where a lilac dot disappears, the tired cells leave a green afterimage in its place, so the gap looks like a green dot running round.
Blurred objects away from where you are looking also fade from view when they hold still, so after a while the lilac dots can vanish entirely.
