· About today’s shape
A passe-partout is the card mat cut to sit between a picture and its frame. Its job is to hold the eye off the edge of the work and give the image somewhere to breathe. Here the mat has taken the picture over: frame inside frame inside frame, all the way in, until the border is the subject.
